IDEA 2025.01 Touch Bar Function Keys Missing

1. Background

I upgraded IDEA to 2025.01 on a whim, only to find that the frequently used touch bar function keys had disappeared.

I checked the official documentation: Touch bar support but it didn't explain why they disappeared. Based on my previous troubleshooting notes: Restore IDEA's touch bar settings, or set touch bar to F1, F2 when using IDEA

I still couldn't find why the touch bar disappeared.

2. Solution

After searching online, I finally found someone who discovered this issue in IDEA YouTrack: Missing touchbar support on 2025.1

The solution is to open the corresponding setting: Help → Find Action... → "Registry..."

After enabling this and restarting IDEA, you'll see the function keys on the touch bar are back.

3. Afterword

By the way, IDEA 2025.01 with the new UI is really unstable - various freezing bugs, and sometimes it won't even start, which forced me to roll back to the 2024 version...
